CD of new American music by Ewazen, Heinick, Marshall and Snow
Eugene
Becker, former Assistant Principal Violist
of the New York Philharmonic, is Professor of Viola
and Chamber Music at The Juilliard School and at
the Meadowmount School. He was violist of the Krasner
and Gramercy String Quartets, and has served on
the faculties of Syracuse University, Lehman College,
SUNY/Purchase, Congress of Strings, and the National
Orchestral Association. A frequent guest artist,
Mr. Becker has given highly acclaimed master classes
abroad, and performed as soloist in Lincoln Center's
Mozart Bicentennial.
Emmanuel
Feldman is principal cellist of the Boston
Pops Esplanade Orchestra and the Boston Philharmonic.
He received a Bachelors degree from the Curtis
Institute of Music, and has participated in the
Tanglewood, Schlesswig-Holstein, and Pablo Casals
Music Festivals. Mr. Feldman plays in the Axiom
Duo with his wife, double-bassist Pascale Feldman.
D'Anna
Fortunato has sung leading roles with
the New York City Opera and Glimmerglass Opera,
and has appeared as concert soloist at numerous
music festivals, including Tanglewood, Blossom,
the Bach Festival of Rome, and Casals. She has
performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the
Brewer Consort, Spectrum Concerts in Berlin, and
the Boston Chamber Music Society, and has premiered
numerous works by prominent American composers.
Ivan
Thomas pursues an international operatic
career with performances throughout Europe and
the United States. He has sung in the world premiere
of Philip Glass's "...The Civil Wars" with
the Rome Opera, and in the European premiere of
Conrad Sousa's "Transformations" with
the Netherlands Opera. Mr. Thomas has also performed
with numerous symphony orchestras, including those
of Nashville, Edmonton, Milwaukee, San Diego, as
well as the Hague Philharmonic and the RAI Orchestra
Milan.
Alan
Woy has been a member of Potsdam College's
Crane School of Music faculty since 1971, where
he teaches clarinet, chamber music, woodwind techniques,
and conducting. Dr. Woy earned his Bachelor of
Music degree from Illinois Wesleyan University
and both Master of Music and Doctor of Musical
Arts degrees from the University of Colorado in
Boulder. He is a member of the Potsdam Woodwind
Quintet and principal clarinet with the Chamber
Orchestra of Northern New York. For many years,
performing contemporary clarinet literature has
been a special interest that has taken him to local,
state, national, and international contemporary
music festivals.
