Bee-Song is a movement from my larger choral work The Future of Life, which explores biodiversity and what it might mean as we lose the wonderful array of species in the world.
The music leans toward pentatonic, but becomes just a little chromatic at the climax. The piano part is spare.
About Bee-Song:
“Things may seem dire, but there is much cause for hope. As Thoreau taught us, many people in the world know there is much to value in the natural world, including the nourishment it brings our spirit. “Bee-Song” with text by Anne Baring is a beautiful hymn to this nuturing. The hive, the Earth, is our Mother, protecting and nourishing us.”

This performance of Bee-Song is by the Master Singers of Lexington, MA. They performed the whole cantata The Future of Life in 2007.
Triad: Boston’s Choral Collective performed Bee-Song in 2019 in our last live concert before the pandemic.
