Each return of the musical material is set differently.<\/p>\n I found Rise Up, Shepherd and Follow<\/strong> in Ruth Crawford Seeger’s American Folk Songs for Christmas<\/em>. Her source was Religious Folk Songs of the Negro<\/em>, published in 1909.<\/p>\n Rise Up Shepherd and Follow<\/strong> is part of a larger cantata, Shepherds and Angels<\/a><\/em>, with violin, harp, and tambourine. \u00a0Instrumentally, that set aligns well with Britten\u2019s Ceremony of Carols<\/em> or Susa\u2019s Carols and Lullabies<\/em>.
