It is a hypnotic, introspective piece written over a left-hand ostinato, mostly in a minor. The music has a peaceful, dreamlike quality. Quiet melodic fragments build, become more insistent, then fade away.<\/p>\n<p>The notes are not technically hard, but the expressive nuances and ritards make it a different kind of challenge for the young pianist. The meter is mostly 6\/8. Occasional shortened measures let the music surge forward. The performer must count carefully.<\/p>\n<p>Daydream was selected as a contest requirement for the Renee Fisher Foundation piano competition in Connecticut.
