Listening: Rimkus, Rotaru

Composer/bassoonist Brin Solomon’s blog reveals a lot of music that is new to me in their Music Monday posts.

Taking Brin’s recommendation, I listened to Sarah Rimkus’s MacLeod Road for orchestra, a beautiful work with passages that shimmer with vibraphone bells. Brin’s review of the piece describes the music very well.

In SoundCloud’s fashion, it went on immediately to another tune, Doina Rotaru’s Fragile 2. This solo for clarinet and orchestra has a slightly dark and sinuous soundworld that is very immersive and beautiful in its way.
