Among Friends is contemporary chamber music for horn quartet or horn choir. Feel free to double the parts so everyone in your group can participate.
The music is gentle and conversational. You might imagine a gathering of like-minded people who enjoy a friendly discussion. There are debates and repartee, clever quips and eloquent reflections. The music culminates in a deeply felt accord as all the musicians play a unison melody.
The tessitura of horn 1 is a little high, but still comfortable. Esprit de Cor, for whom I made the adaptation, performed Among Friends as an octet, doubling the parts. The horn version is an adaptation of the original version for trumpet, 2 horns, and euphonium or trombone.
